Prof. Georgios Samakovitis is a Professor of FinTech at the University of Greenwich with over twenty years of research and consultancy experience spanning blockchain, digital assets, anti-money laundering (AML), and financial crime. He combines academic rigor with applied policy and industry insight, specializing in AI– and blockchain-enabled solutions for FinTech and RegTech, including programmable digital assets, payment systems, financial transactions, and fraud prevention. His work consistently bridges emerging technology with regulatory design and financial system integrity.
George has advised and contributed to high-level national and international bodies, including the Bank of England and the UK Cabinet Office. His roles have included service on the Bank of England’s CBDC Technology Forum supporting the design of the Digital Pound, the Counter Fraud & Data Analytics Advisory Group of HM Government’s Cabinet Office, the FinCrime Working Group at the UK Payments Strategy Forum, and the BSI UK Data Standards Expert Panel, contributing to the UK National Data Strategy. Through these engagements, he has helped shape policy approaches to data strategy, financial crime prevention, and the governance of emerging technologies. As a Senior Executive Fellow in Digital Assets and Blockchain at The Digital Economist, Prof. Samakovitis brings deep expertise at the intersection of innovation, regulation, and global financial security.
