Max Buechner is an investor and fund manager focused on mobilizing private capital to strengthen Europe’s security, defence, and resilience landscape. His work bridges finance, national security, and diplomatic strategy, with experience spanning capital markets, corporate development, and policy environments. He has held leadership and advisory roles across organizations including Speer Group, Houlihan Lokey, Rheinmetall, and the Institute of Economic Affairs, supporting early-stage investment initiatives and strategic capital allocation in complex, high-stakes contexts.

Educated at EBS, Harvard, and Oxford, Max also completed the United Nations Staff Officers’ Course at the German Bundeswehr Command and Staff College. This interdisciplinary background enables him to integrate economic analysis with national security and geopolitical perspectives, informing investment decisions that address emerging risk dynamics and long-term strategic priorities.

As a Senior Executive Fellow in Tech Policy and Governance at The Digital Economist, Max brings a cross-sector and cross-border perspective to research and dialogue on security, resilience, and capital mobilization. He focuses on building bridges between investors, policymakers, and industry leaders to support Europe’s long-term geopolitical stability, economic prosperity, and strategic autonomy.
